Hi! I’m Nanea. I’m a multi-hyphenate filmmaker currently based in Los Angeles (and sometimes Hawai’i). Below is some background info on me should you be curious to learn more. Or you can always just say hello.

Writer/Director Nanea Miyata is a Japanese-Hawaiian woman from a family strongly molded by her severely handicapped older sister with Rett Syndrome, and is no stranger to fighting for inclusion and for underrepresented voices to be heard. A multi-hyphenate who also writes music, Nanea is a self-actualized filmmaker whose career has been created by her mantra “make it til you make it.”

In 2015, Nanea co-founded her production company, June Street Studios, and since then has written/directed/produced numerous commercials (for major brands such as Ford, Honda and Mattel™), award-winning short films and music videos, and in 2018 completed and sold her first feature-length film, Christmas Harmony, a holiday musical romance that she wrote and directed, to Lifetime™.

When her next feature film production slated for March 2020 was halted due to the pandemic, Nanea wrote a new feature contained to a 5-person cast and 7-person crew that takes place in one location - Dead In The Water. She directed and co-produced the female thriller while quarantining with cast and crew. The film sold to Lifetime™ and will be the first-ever debut original movie on their new Lifetime Movie Club platform.

Since then, Nanea has been hired to write/direct for other production companies and studios. She recently completed her sixth feature film that she wrote/directed, and excels at delivering quality content despite budget and time constraints. She is currently pushing for opportunities to tell bigger, more meaningful stories. Outside of filmmaking, , Nanea is dedicated to her family and is active with reverse Rett Syndrome, an organization dedicated to finding a cure for the devastating (but provenly non-degenerative and thus very hopeful) neurological disorder that affects not only her sister, but 350,000 girls and women worldwide.
