Hi! I'm Nanea. I'm a serial creative currently based in Los Angeles. I'm a filmmaker, photographer, artist manager and music-maker. I love what I do because I do what I love. I'm quite terrible at the whole bio thing, mainly because I think the previous sentences already say everything of importance. Nevertheless, below is some background on me, should you be curious to learn more. Or you can always say hello.
Nanea Miyata is from Simi Valley, California, the Los Angeles-adjacent suburbia where nothing happens after 8pm. Being so close to LA, and so hungry for attention, she found escape from the other typical pressures Asian parents place on their children by playing pretend and performing on stage and in film. Realizing how much she loved being a part of storytelling, Nanea dedicated her efforts to creating and producing art and music. While earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Southern California (still had those Asian parents), she began writing and composing her first original musical, The Bedroom Window. Shortly thereafter, Nanea turned her attention to filmmaking and started writing and producing a short film a week with a small group of wildly talented friends. Some were great, some were just okay, some garnered awards at film festivals, but every single one was done on a $0 budget.
Now, as passionate as ever, and armed with the skills and understanding that come with having nearly forty shorts under her belt, Nanea is still writing, producing, composing, shooting and editing, and has worked on a handful of web-series, numerous award-winning short films, music videos, two feature film screenplays, and continues to grow and develop her newly founded film and music production company, PowHana, which also manages music artists. Nanea is 26 and lives in Los Angeles, CA.
